Nokia promoted the Booklet 3G as a top-notch netbook with an all-aluminum chassis, GPS apps and integrated connectivity. And at that time the Booklet 3G is one of the best-looking netbooks out there. However, Nokia’s entry into the U.S. netbook market was really challenging. And after the initial sales figures were out the leadership posted a task or challenge to several teams: “How would you change the Nokia Booklet 3G?” Knowing the strong points of the Nokia Booklet that it can connect anywhere with 3G and about it’s low-power processing, defined two areas for improvement.
Advocated to (1) change and improve the device initial set-up experience and (2) assist processing by utilizing the power of cloud computing – like never having to install an app … just turn it on. Introduced concept web apps (widgets) like “Timeline” where a user can chronologically see their interactions with other apps like contacts, tasks, events, etc. And it all can be socialized enabling all to discover new stuff through people they know and trust. Nokia New York sales team recognized the potential of the concept.
